Not too long ago, we gave you 3 Simple Ways To Avoid Tooth Stains, but we know you need even more happy-and-healthy tooth tips in your life now that summer is (finally!) here, right?
- Show your lips some love.
Okay, this isn’t exactly a tooth tip, but since your lips are basically the “frame” of your smile, we figured that we had better include this one.
Slather sunscreen on your lips. Often. Too many people forget to do this. You might even want to look into picking up a chap stick that is infused with sunscreen.
- Don’t miss your dental appointments.
Not to harp on this, but the importance of frequent dental visits is SUPER essential to your long-term oral health (and you can read what the American Dental Association’s MouthHealthy.org has to say about this here). And we totally get that summer is your time to relax and that the last thing you want to be doing on your off time is scheduling and going to dental appointments.
But NOT heading to the dentist every 6 months or so for checkups can mean that a minor flare-up can grow into a full-fledged oral health issue, which means it might end up being more costly and painful for you.
And be sure to make an appointment sooner than later instead of trying to squeeze it into the last few weeks of summer, when dental offices are swamped with appointment requests.
- After every un-tooth-friendly snack or beverage, drink a glass of H20.
Chowing down on summertime foods is basically inevitable. And yes, ideally, you would steer clear of corn on the cob, barbecue sauce, wine, iced coffee, etc., but sometimes that just isn’t going to happen.
So, after indulging in anything that may harm your teeth, down a glass of water. It not only re-hydrates you (which is great because many of tooth-harming foods and drinks are salty or sugary), but it can help rinse away less-than-spectacular food and drink residue.
Obviously, you will want to brush and floss as soon as possible too!
