On October 2nd, we had World Smile Day®, which we covered in World Smile Day®: A Quick Overview. But if you are sad that that smile-centric event has come and gone, fret not! It is National Dental Hygiene Month RIGHT NOW and you still have plenty of time to celebrate it properly. Whew.
You might not know exactly what to make of this event though, so here is a cheat sheet of what you need to know:
First established in 2009, this event is a collaboration of sorts between the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) and Wrigley’s Wrigley Oral Healthcare Program (WOHP). Throughout the month, the ADHA and the WOHP will provide resources and guidance to help dental hygienists make a difference in their communities, as well as showcasing ways that they can raise awareness and share information with both their patients and the public.
This event is focusing on “The Daily Four”—brushing teeth twice a day, flossing every day, rinsing with antimicrobial mouth rinse and chewing sugar-free gum.
So, in honor of this event, we encourage you to use this event to remind yourself and others of the importance of taking care of your teeth, mouth and gums. And don’t forget to thank each and every one of the lovely Registered Dental Assistants in your life*!
*Like, seriously, send them a card or something.
