Keep It Clean: Everything You Need To Know About Getting A Prophy

keep-it-clean

Let us begin by clarifying that a prophy is just another term for a professional dental cleaning for healthy gums (as opposed to a deep cleaning). Now that that is out of the way, we can go ahead and jump right in.

In a nutshell, a prophy is when a hygienist cleans above the gums. Special instruments are used to clean tartar and plaque from the surface of teeth, between teeth and around the gum line.

Prior to getting ANY type of cleaning, your hygienist will most likely perform a gum examination, in order to determine what will be best for you, your gums and your pearly whites.
