Every December 7th, dozens—or maybe hundreds or thousands, we really aren’t 100% certain—of people throw their hands up in the air and pay homage to cotton candy.
Do you want to know what our favorite thing about cotton candy is? That it was apparently (at least partially) invented by a dentist. That and the fact that it was initially called “fairy floss”. Ten points for guessing which half of that name we like*.
Anyway, we know you might be tempted to toss this super sugary confection into your mouth to celebrate, but may we suggest that you opt for the following three (way more smile-friendly!) treats instead?
Unsweetened Toasted Coconut Shreds Over Fresh Tropical Fruit
Available in most health food stores (and certain super market baking aisles), shredded coconut pairs perfectly with sliced mango, kiwi and pineapple. Just sprinkle a couple of pinches onto your fruit platter and enjoy!
Banana “Ice Cream”
Sticklers might pick a fight with us over dubbing this dairy-free treat “ice cream”, but once they take a bite of this, we know they will forgive us. Simply blend together a few sweet bananas with a dash of water in a blender. Pop your mix into the freezer for a couple of hours and then serve.
Peanut Butter + Chocolate Cups
Scoop a spoonful of no-sugar-added peanut butter into a mini cupcake wrapper and top with 3-4 dark chocolate chips. Then dig in.
Happy Cotton Candy Day! We hope it is wonderful and cotton-candy-free!
*That was a trick, we like floss and fairies.
