Temperatures & Your Teeth

What you eat and drink can, of course, impact your oral health. But did you know that a beverage and/or meal’s temperature combination might be an issue, too?

While mixing hot and cold foods & drinks won’t necessarily damage your smile, per se, this habit may ultimately increase tooth sensitivity, which can end up being a bit problematic.

It is more serious than you might imagine. Extreme temperature changes can “cause teeth to expand and contract”, which may, over time, cause microscopic cracks to develop, allowing hot or cold sensations to seep through to the nerves beneath the tooth enamel. Wow.

How can you prevent this? Stick with cool (not freezing) and warm (not piping hot) options and try to avoid pairing chillier choices with warmer ones.

It’s that simple, actually.
