When Is Bad Breath A Cause For Concern?

Halitosis is a major concern for many. You don’t want to scare loved ones away by sending a funky, foul odor wafting their every time you speak, obviously.

So, what can you do to prevent and/or eliminate bad breath?

1. Examine Your Eating Habits

Chowing down on certain dishes, ingredients and herbs can lead to a less-than-fresh after-effect. If you are eating foods like garlic or onion, it’s no wonder that you might be suffering the (scent) consequences! 

2. Stay Hydrated

The importance of drinking enough water really cannot be overstated. Dehydration can worsen bad breath in many cases, as your saliva might not be able to effectively wash-away food particles.

Skip the sports drinks, sugary coffee concoctions and soda, too, for good measure.

3. Add In Post-Meal Brushing Sessions

Perhaps this is a given, but it bears repeating! One of the simplest ways to tackle bad breath is to keep your mouth as clean as possible, even if you are out on the town or in the office. Pick up a travel-sized oral hygiene care kit and keep it on hand. It’s worth the effort.

4. Consider Picking Up An Alcohol-Free, ADA-Approved Mouthwash

A well-chosen mouthrinse/mouthwash can help you feel minty fresh and confident. Don’t rely on this instead of flossing, though!

If you are unable to boot bad breath, no matter what, you should mention this to your dentist; it may be an indication of an oral health issue.
